The Sensex reached another milestone on Thursday and crossed the 12,000 mark for the first time ever. It slipped to a low of 11,866 levels in intra-day trade. The journey from 11,000 to 12,000 levels was completed in just 19 days. It ended the day at 12,039 levels.
In the broader markets, the Nifty, gained 1.1 per cent or 38 points to end at 3573 levels.
"Near term direction would be guided by earnings estimate of corporates and liquidity," added Ashu Kakkar.
Leading charge at the Sensex was Reliance Industries. The counter moved up over eight per cent or Rs 74 by close. Tata Steel, Hindalco, Tata Motors, Satyam Computer and Grasim Industries were the other gainers.
NTPC at Rs 139 levels, however, slipped 2.5 per cent. The company reported a 1.73 per cent fall in net profit for 2005-06. HDFC, Hero Honda, Ranbaxy Laboratories and TCS also ended weak. Source : NDTV |
