| sigh...i dont even know where to begin abt this...i dont know why there is so much emphasis on memorization and regurgitation...i studied 11 years in a CBSE affiliated school...and wt did i learn frm it..nothing exc fr calculus..if the wording of my answer was not the same as in my notebook..i would lose marks...it was sad...it dint matter if i understood the concept and principle...they jst wanted me to reproduce the same 3 lines frm my notebook..its sad...also there was never any emphasis on communication skills and interpersonal skills...when i came here in grade 10 i was asked to do a presentation in front of class..i was like wt the hell??? communication skills are so impt. esp at ur job...u have to know how to present urself etc...i dont know how such impt. skills are neglected...ohh and some teachers dont know HOW to teach....in my skool if u had a bachelors degree u cld become a teacher....it was so annoying...anyways, i am sure icyflame can understand wt i am talking abt...iisr...sigh... |

| Yeah I like the level of difficulty in the indian school system. The re-vomiting of memorized material has to go though. Here, it's just as bad in Ontario though, but for different reasons. We have so many dumb people here that the standards are just pathetic. Really, no Indian student would find Ontarian ecucation system challenging. |

| lolz menzi...i know exactly wt ur talking abt. atleast ur being trained for proper presentation of urself now na. im still stuck with the same old memorize and reproduce system. i had to do a few presentations in these 2 yrs and it was so wierd coz we've never been trained for anything practical. its all js been theoretical. heck, even the practicals are so theoretical! know wt i mean? its like the ppl studyin in indian schools have the knowledge but dont have the ability to reproduce it effectively. we all drift over to the west or somewhr else n learn how to present ourselves then stay back thr coz we like the system there. which sux coz all the smart and cool guys are out of india and im left with the suckers!! lolz... |

Coming from india, studying in Canada... it was heck of difference and wow what a challenge it was. menzi i totally agree with you ..abt the whole communication and interpersonal skills. hhahah when i came here i was like PRESENTATIONS? IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS??? yea.. I learnt soooo much from that. I learnt alot about myself..and I am still learning. In india all i remember was...oh **** i have a test tomorrow- i would bring a whole stack of paper and pencil and just memorize the questions and write the answer out atleast 5 times so i can rewrite it in the morning. LOL...wow good ol' memorizing days. There was no actual "studying" being done... but whatever. When i came here I would actually sit with the book and make sense of it...and that was hard for me. Doing projects every other week was very exciting for me because i love hands on stuff - esp when i can do a bristol board presenation-- i would make it look soo pretty and artisitic.. (i never had a chance to do that in india, probably only in art class- where we would draw and paint in our notebooks :? ) lol..anyhow, yea. When i came here in gr 7 i thought everyone in my class was "stupid" ...seriously i felt like i was back in gr 4 or 5. I would laugh at all the people, they were doing like basic math ..and they would have dictation on the most stupids easiest words... (I was SHOCKED, lol). I think studying in india is great... but they should incorporate more of the practical stuff.. (I think they do in higher studies ...but i dunno)
Well, both the systems in india or canada need a change, there are many things that lack in both the systems..
But...i would jus love to go back to india, and live the college years. Its JUST not the same here...
ok this is gettin big.. bye c ya |

When will our education system change??
It'll change when we will try to change it.
No body wants to change it. If you want to change it, raise your voice and you will find many with you.
Remember you are trying to change a system, which is not an easy task.
Sorry, if am hurting someone, but Indians ki adat hai sirf baatein karne ki, aur khud unn sab cheizon se bhagtey rehna ki. |

rite well i really dont know how the education system is like there in canada, but from what I hear its supposed to be darn easy. I've studied all my life in a CBSe affiliated skool, and well despite all its flaws, I dun really have much of a problem wid it. Maybe its cuz Im used to it, or I havent experienced any other kind. But i guess you guyz are rite abt most of the stuff, we hardly do get to test our practical skills in most stuff or how to apply the knwoledge we get from the thoretical stuff. I believe thats smthn CBSe is working on and well im in tenth, and however small they may be, i can see changes in our system every year, changes in the marking system, more emphasis on practical stuff etc. We've now got to give a practical exam in maths now, for example.
The other thing I tihnk CBSE is tryin to do is reduce the pressure on kids, theres been like a huge decrease in the portion we study nowadays. If I aks the teachers today, they'll telll me that the Board Exam that im gonna give thie year is gonna be like ten times easier than the one my seniors gave like 6 or 7 years ago.
So even though its slow, CBSe is evolving. Who knows how it may be like 6 years from now. |
